Remembering the Marketplace of the Midsouth

The Great Elevator Upgrade

The original open Mall elevator was tucked in a hallway alcove very close to the new elevator. It opened downstairs again in a service hallway close to the children play area.

Unfortunately, this "out of sight" design made the elevator and hallway the perfect spot for customers to be mugged, etc. In one of the malls several multi-million dollar upgrades, the elevator was moved out into the mall plaza area and fitted with windows so there were no more blind areas. This move may have prevented futher assaults in the middle of the mall, but it wasn't enough to save the Mall.
