Many mall watchers believe the piecemeal selling of mall properties in the summer of 2002 represent the real point in time when the malls fate was sealed. Having the property divided into platts, some of which had portions of the mall building itself included, some didn't - may have been done for tax reasons, bookkeeping considerations, etc. It could also have been a plan to rip down the mall plazas and sell the anchors as freestanding big box type stores.

That didn't happen of course. The slate was wiped clean. Is there a plan? Time will tell.

This lot seems quite expensive to not have any buildings on it.
