Wilsons

Wilsons

When the mall opened, the space later occupied by Service Merchandise was a store named Wilsons. I don't remember much about it but it seemed alot like Service Merchandise in terms of products carried.

Wilson's was a catalog showroom department store owned by the H.J. Wilson Company. Wilson's carried jewelry, sporting goods, appliances, and toys. I believe the chain was regional and based in the southern United States. Wilson's was purchased by Service Merchandise in 1985, when most of the stores were converted to the SM name. The store occupied two levels, was accessible through the interior mall and through the exterior from the north parking lot. Although serviced by an elevator, Wilson's also had a staircase in the middle of the showroom which connected the two floors. MTF 9/11/2010
